School of Football

Can football teach a robot how to move more naturally?

School of Football

Hyundai and Boston Dynamics worked together to create the School of Football. A project that turned football into a training program for Atlas.

Teaching a humanoid all the different dynamic movements of football also teaches it how to operate in a dynamic world.

Unveiling the Ghost Rabona

The Ghost Rabona

Atlas didn’t only learn how to move, he also created a new signature kick: The Ghost Rabona.
A variation on the Rabona that adds an extra layer to it. It starts with a fake kick, a deception, and ends on a regular Rabona. We invited the football community to try it and share their attempts.

How it worked
Atlas learned from FIFA footage, motion capturing players and refining with AI.

Launch with love.

We launched the campaign with a film showing Atlas falling in love with football. Working with Boston Dynamics, Hyundai and FIFA meant we there were a lot of restrictions. But it turned out to be a beautiful film and project. It was very interesting to see up close how Atlas operates, and how the world of robotics is no longer a thing of the future.
